Jay Z will replace the Beastie Boys at the All Points West Music Festival in Jersey City this weekend (August 1st, 09).  As stated in the post below, there has been an opening due to MCA having found a cancerous tumor in his salivary gland.  Other performers  to perform at the music and arts festival are Tool and Coldplay as the premier headliners at the festival including Jay.  There will be other performers as well.  So if you’re in the NYC area head on over to JC to check this out, should be hot to death.  You can get there for $89 for one of the days or $219 for the whole 3 days.

Bad news for the Beastie Boys this summer. Their upcoming tour for the album “Hot Sauce Committee Part I” has been canceled indefinetly due to cancerous tumor found in MCA’s salavary gland.  Luckily it has been caught early and only in one location so it is treatable and likely to survive.  It will require surgery and treatment but he should be OK.  The title track “Too Many Rappers” featuring Nas was one of the songs from the album that was coming out.  Now the album may not come out at all, but we’ll see what happens after a recovery from MCA.  The rest of the band members sent love, prayers and condolences to his family.  The HipHope.com family sends love too his family also.

Remember Fabolous when he first came out in 2000, he had that hit. It’s a little haze but I remember the hook a bit, you know the song, “Can’t Deny It.” Yeah it was hot, the world was naming him the next so and so great rapper or whatever. Taking Jay Z’s throne, yeah it didn’t really turn out like that. As a matter of fact, since that first hit he had, it was all downhill from there. His albums kept getting wacker and wacker, with a few cool guess spots here and there that were hot. Remember Lil Mo’s “Superwoman,” yeah s**t like that. But here we are in 2009 with a come back album entiled “Loso’s Way.” From the title you would think this is going to be some straight gangsta s**t. No not at all, this album sounds like he came out the box thinking, this is what is hot right now let me sound like that. Then he just got it all wrong! Every beat sounds like some sissy stupidness that is straight wack. His rhyming is terrible on every single track, he sounds like a terrible cross of Ja Rule, T Pain and Nsync. I’m not going to go song for song on this review, every song is wack as far as rhyme style and the stupid beats that are on there. This album gets a 1% fresh because there was only one song that sounded half way decent. Don’t waste your money on this CD even if it costs a penny.

Another sad day in the entertainment world.  Another death, Mr Aturo Gatti was strangled to death as he sleptr, allegedly by his 23 year old wife in a hotel in Brazil.  He has a purse strap around his neck and an injury to his head.  His wife said she woke up around 6 am on Saturday July 11th, 2009 and found her husband dead.  She claims she wasn’t the killer and is too fragile to kill a boxer.  Investigations are saying he was drugged or hit on the head with a blunt object to keep from fighting back.  Apparently on Friday the two had a fight in which Gatti threw his wife, Amanda Rodriguez to the ground siting motive for the murder.  Gatti had a great boxing career and retired in 2007 with a 40-9 record with 31 knockouts.  His trilogy with Micky Ward was a classic that HBO is planning to air again.  Condolences to the Gatti family, he will be missed and always remembered.

Oh my goodness, I’m trying my best to stop blogging about Lil Wayne, but his stories are getting a bit too interesting to pass up.  On July 9th, 2009 Red City Entertainment filed a law suit against Lil Wayne for missing a concert Sept 2008 in the Bahamas.  Now the reason that he missed the concert was he was sleeping.  LOL!!!!!!! What the hell were you taking Lil Wayne that you slept through a concert date?!?  Don’t get me wrong I like drinking and hanging with the fellas and what not but damn….  I’ve seen concerts start an hour or two late because the performers were late, I think you could have done something to make it.  Where was your entorage, were you all taking the same shit.  Is he back on Heroin, was in Syzurp or what.  I guess we can only speculate but I hope he gets his stuff together because lately Weezy’s been f***ing up really bad.  Red City Entertainment wants $432,000, $210,000 is for the advance and other expenses.  Cortez Bryant, Wayne’s manager said the said date he missed was a make up concert scheduled for the day before but was cancelled due to non payment of the sound equipment which they packed up and left before Wayne was supposed to hit the stage.  Wayne is turning into a sad story, we really hope he gets his self together.

Drake has a song called “Every Girl In the World” featuring Lil Wayne, this song is about fu… I mean having sexual relations with every girl in the world. Now I’m never the one to hate on someone with a foul mouth, I slip up in front of the kids every once in a while myself. But the performance on the BET awards was way worse than me having to apologize to my daughter for saying the s-word. I was just saying how there’s too much going on with Lil Wayne, and I been posting about him way too much. Just when I thought I was done with him, here he goes again in some more stupidness (made up word but so what). So in the middle of the song, here come Weezy’s young daughter and her friend. First off they bum rushed the stage because this wasn’t planned. Stupid stage people with no brain or no clue what Drake and Weezy were rapping about. The girls apparently demanded to get on stage (stupid stage people). So here are two little girls dancing to a song that says the wanna fu…. I mean have sex with every girl in the world. Oh my, isn’t that disturbing, they’re singing that song and there’s two little girls dancing in the background. So what the hell is Drake apologizing for? Those weren’t his kids bum rushing the stage. Damn this is one of the reason’s people are saying Drake is going to take Weezy’s throne. Here’s a few more, his drugged out, two children having, two baby moms at the same time, homo controversy, gun charges and yes there’s more but we’ll stop here because this is a Drake post not a Lil Wayne bashing post. But let’s see what’s good this year as Drake gets signed and more exposure (like he hasn’t had enough). Everyone saying he’s the next great rapper to take over the game. But hey is it possible he can be another Canibus? Yeah probably not in the age of Laffy Taffy-like hooks and mindless songs that sell like hot cakes.  Hey wanna see the video, it’s a bit disturbing, but check it out.

Wow, more bad news.  Steve Mcnair on of the toughest QB’s in the history of the game died July 4th, 2009 early afternoon.  He was found in a condo he co owned with a freind of his Sahel Kazemi whom he was rumored to be having an affair with.  No suspects, ESPN is now thinking this was a murder suicide.  There’s so little info right now, everyone wants to know what happened.  Steve was shot twice, Sahel was shot once in the side of the head.  She was found laying on top of the pistol, that’s why they’re saying this was a murder suicide.  The week before Sahel was pulled over for a DWI with Steve in the passenger seat.  Eddie George, Steves main running back for many years, started crying while being interviewed on Sportscenter.  Another sad day in the Hip Hop world, how many of us used to love (and hate) how great him and Eddie George was on the field.  Watching Steve limp on and off the field while making all the plays he needed to.  Jah have mercy condolense go out to his family.  RIP Mr Quaterback!

More sad news for the Hip Hop nation.  Vibe Magazine is closing for good.  Founded by the great Quincy Jones (and Time Warner) 15 years ago, is coming to an end.  The print magazine advertisers have not been spending like they used to.  Vibe tried it’s hardest to get more investers to save itself, but couldn’t find any takers.  Vibe started out soft, bland and no competition for The Source and XXL Magazine.  As the Source and XXL went through it’s changes (most of them bad) Vibe stepped up it’s game and actually surpased the two other magazines as far as content.  Vibe always had the look though.  So this we’re regarding this as another sad death in the Hip Hop world becasue Vibe Magazine always seemed like a part of us.  Vibe was actually doing 800,000 plus magazine sales per month but it’s the advertising money that killed it.  Well it’s been a long run, buy the last copy on the shelves and save it.  Hey, isn’t Keyshia Cole fine as a muthaf***ah?!?

Sorry to be ODing on Lil Wayne storys, but damn there’s so much going on with him and, let’s admit it, he’s a very interesting person.  Regardless of his wack lyrical content, he still makes hit records and stays in the studio.  While I may not like his music, I love his work ethic and success.  With that said, what the hell is wrong with him.  Seems like he’s always getting sick from something.  According to the BBC, he canceled his European tour due to illness (no they didn’t say what illness) and doctor recomended rest.  Wow, how much rest could he need, the tour wasn’t supposed to start unti July 12th.  There must really be something wrong with him.  Well let’s see what more info comes out, I’ll let you know.  But the tour included the Roskilde Festival in Denmark, Paris, London, Amsterdam, Liege and Thurgau in Switzerland.  Europe seems to be getting the short end of the stick in the last week or two.  First Michael dies, so no concert, now Weezy gets sick and cancels his concerts.  Don’t worry Europe, he’s planning on making the tour again after he gets bettter.

I don’t know if this is a good or bad thing.  Rev Mase is coming out of retirement to start recording again.  Motivated by the death of Michael Jackson, he is in the studio recording again.  Damn I hope he leaves the shiny suits out of the equation and steps up his rhymes.  Because back in the ’90′s he was so bland and looked really homo in those shiny suits.  This is what he told Billboard Magazine, “Mike passed away and it just lit the fire in me – it made me go in the studio and do something. I’m excited.”  Yeah we hope some of his music talents rub off on you too because you used to be wack, the only thing that saved your music before was Puffy’s producers.  Remember he had another comeback in 2004 that no one was too interested in, let’s see if he can step up his game and keep it real at the same time.

Look at who got a new promotion deal with Microsoft to promote their new HTC Touch Pro 2 celly, uh I mean mobile device. Microsoft went throwback on us using Naughty By Nature as the face of their new mobile device. So on MS’s Windows Mobile Facebook page they’re having a contest where if you become a fan, they select users to win the device, a concert featuring Naughty in LA at the Nokia Theater and Naughty’s new single, Get To Know Me Better, preloaded on the phone. Wow, I’m signing up right now, make sure you sign up for the contest soon because it ends on August 15th, 2009.  This isn’t the first time MS teamed up with a Hip Hop artist.  In December ’08 the partnered with Common to promote his new clothing line called Softwear.
