Aubrey Louis Berry accused killer of rapper Dolla

Accused murder Aubrey Louis Berry in court is accused of killing rapper Dolla and then retrieving his car and driving around the body.  Audrey’s defense lawyer claims self defense and say Louis was threatened by Dolla.  The accounts of the opening statements say the two had a fight two weeks before his murder at a strip club in Atlanta, where they both lived.  By chance they were both at a valet area of the Beverly Center mall in LA on May 18, 2009.  Deputy District Attorney Robert Grace told the jury Berry fired 8 shots at Dolla and his friends, 4 of which hit him, 3 of the bullets in the back as he tried to run. Afterward Berry drove his car around Dolla’s body has he laid on the ground dying.  Wow!  That’s going to be hard to argue self defense.  Dolla, who’s real name is Roderick Anthony Burton II was an artist that Akon was putting out, he already had two songs with Akon.  Dolla was in the studio working on his studio album and touring at the time of his death.  Such a shame, another Hip Hopper dies.  But Dolla didn’t even get a chance to really shine.

Gucci Mane is doing a lot from Jail these days.  He recorded an album (well at least one song from jail) and n0w he fires his manager Debora Antey and left Mizay Entertainment.  He also cut loose his promoter Johnnie Campbell and Hitt Afta Hitt Enterprises.  He is also leaving So Icey Entertainment label and launching his own label, 1017 Brick Squad Records Inc.  He told AllHipHop.com, “The rest of 2010 is going to be real major. I’m taking control of all of my business properties and keeping the focus on my career, my music and my artists. All the pieces to the puzzle are finally in place and once I get home it’s Gucci time.”  He is now being managed by First Avenue Management, with David Bolno, Managing Director at Nigro, Karlin, Segal & Feldstein as the manager of his business affairs. CAA will now handle his show bookings.  Seems like Gucci is cleaning up his act all together as I have the same confidence he’ll clean up his act as he is released from jail.  Well this is the second time in a month that Debora Antey has been fired, she was also fired by Nicki Minaj for not getting her paperwork in order to go on tour with Rihanna.

Trina’s album Amazin finally dropped today, May 4th 2010.  Coming from Fla, she’s been the self proclaimed Baddest B**** in the rap game.  Until recently the weak rhyming, no style of her own, Lil Wayne female clone Nicki Minaj came out this year.  Trina’s been rocking since 1998 and came out with her first album in 2000.  Now there’s a big question today of who’s the better rapper, Nicki Minaj or Trina.  Seems like once you pass the age of like 29, you’re old in the game.  But now we’re going to find out about Trina’s album first since her album is out now and Nicki’s album isn’t out until later this year.  Listening to Amazin I got a feel of here’s more vintage Trina (I love her southern accent).  Then I listened to the song Dang A Lang featuring Lady Saw and Nicki Minaj.  This song is no doubt hot and the best verse that I ever heard from Minaj.  She sounds like Trina on this song and not Lil Wayne this time.  Hey that might work for her.  Other guest appearances on this album from Diddy, Keri Hilson, Flo-Rida, Git Fresh, Monica, Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, Lyfe Jennings and Shonie. The song Million Dollar Girl feat Diddy and Keri Hilson is straight terrible.  Sounds like a Nickelodeon version of Last Night, Diddy has been terrible lately.  Other stand out tracks on this album besides Dang A Lang are, I Want It All featuring Monica, Currency featuring Lil Wayne and Rick Ross and That’s My Attitude.  The rest of the album is like some mellow R&B music.  All in all a pretty good album, no doubt show’s the different musical styles she has.  We’ll give her a 82% out a 100.  Check out some of the tracks from the album on her Myspace music player below.

Devin the Dude has a new album out, came out on April 20th, 2010.  We all know what kind of music it’s gonna a be.  Some straight up sit back-relax-as you blaze one with your girl type music.  And as usually he delivers with some funky beats and smoothed out rhymes with his Chicago accent.  Devin the Dude is one of the best rappers to come out of Chicago in a while.  Not your normal gangsta rapper that seems to be in abundance from that area, but a chill and having fun while smoking type music.  Most of you haven’t heard of him since he’s not your pop-rapper that gets played on the radio 20 times a day.  Room 420 is almost a perfect album with almost every track a stand out track.  But most of all the stand out tracks are We Get High, Pick My Brain, I Gotta Ho and All You Need.  This album is a must have for all the smokers and playas out there in the Hip Hop world.  We’ll give this album a 88% out of 100.  Check a preview of a few of the songs off the album below from his Myspace page.

Common is coming back after a very well put together album in 2007, Universal Mind Control.  Not the best album of the year but still a decent album.  But Common isn’t supposed to be known for putting out decent material.  Now in 2010 he’s working with Kanye West and No ID.  Talk about keeping it real, Common’s been working with No ID since before he was signed or even famous.  Working with two producers from his hometown Chicago, sounds like it’s going to be a banger.  Chicago artists have been putting out some good music lately by signed and unsigned artists.  The album is currently being worked on the album is entitled The Believer.  Although there’s no official release date Common said he is hoping to have the release by fall of 2010.  Common describes the album as “soulful Hip Hop.”  Well thanks for that bit of information, Common’s been making soulful Hip Hop for years now.  “It’s ‘good’ music,” he said. “The themes are street music and elevation, things that I feel like I always embody when I rap. But here there’s new situations, new solutions.”  I hear that we are looking forward to hearing some new Common music with some No ID beats behind it.  Check back for the album review a few weeks before the album comes out.

Scarface is coming out with a new album on May 11th, MP3 release May 4th called Dopeman Music.  A promotion through Amazon.com he’s giving away a free sample of this album in a 3:30 minute megamix.  The joint is mad blaze and it gives the album a good preview, there’s some dope beats and good Scarface-flowing rhymes on here.  Make sure that you download it because I’m sure it’s not going to still be here after the album is released.  In an interview on MTV, ‘Face stated that he is not only a musician but a pioneer and needed to change the way he delivered his music.  Here’s a link to download the song, it’s blaze.  DOWNLOAD

B.o.B aka Bobby Ray, rapper out of Atlanta who has created quite a buzz in the past year or so is finally coming out with his long-awaited debut album.  B.o.B. Presents: The Adventures Of Bobby Ray is the title, release date of 4.27.2010.  The album was orignally supposed to come out in May but due to his commercial success the date was pushed up.  In the past several years the south has put out a lot of music, some good a lot of garbage though.  Lately the south movement has been getting a bit tiring, the record labels have been making a mockery of the music and making a lot of clones.  Now here’s B.o.B. with a refreshing twist to the monotony of it all.  This album has a lot of REAL music on it, not just beats and rhymes.  He uses not your normal guest appearances, Bruno Mars, Lupe Fiasco, Hayley Williams of Paramore, T.I., Playboy Tre, Janelle Monae, Rivers Cuomo, Ricco Barrino and Eminem.  What?!?  That doesn’t sound like your normal guests on a Hip Hop record.  Well this is no normal Hip Hop record, sounds more like a mix of Rock, Hip Hop, Soul and Pop.  The music isn’t belligerent, not a lot of cursing and no drug dealing going on.  Wow, haven’t heard a Hip Hop album like that in a long time.  Like I said it’s refreshing to hear some happy music for a change with some good messages.  I wouldn’t mind letting my kids listen to this album.  There’s plenty of melodies and harmonies on the album, very impressed.  The only downfall of the album is it’s a bit tiring because it seems on some of the tracks he’s trying to hard to sound different and mix the genres up too much, but for the most it part it works and very well.  Did I mention the man can sing?!?  Stand out tracks 5th Dimension, Airplanes, Nothing On You and Past My Shades.  You can no doubt tell that he used to listen to Andre 3000 a lot back in his day.  All in all the album gets a nice 82% no doubt for originality!  Preview the music from his new album below…..

The long and ongoing wrongful death lawsuit has been dismissed against the City of Los Angeles.  A lawyer for the Biggie estate, Bradley C. Gage claims the dismissal of this case can prompt arrests in the ’97 shooting of Biggie Smalls.  The case was dismissed on April 5th, 2010 after the Biggie’s estate and the city said the case can be opened at a later date.  The wrongful death lawsuit included allegations that the LAPD had something to do with the murder of Mr Smalls.  Biggie, who’s birth name was Christopher Wallace, was 24 when he died and at the pinnacle of his career when he was gunned down in March 1997 after returning from a party.  The lawsuit first filed in 2002, was declared a mistrial in 2005 after the city was found to withhold evidence of LAPD documents.  Family members say that this case isn’t about money it’s about finding out the truth behind his murder.  I don’t know but it seems like if it was someone else the killer would’ve been tracked down, found, arrested and tried already.  Like KRS 1 said, if you wanna get away with murder, kill a rapper.

Guru from Gang Starr fame, died from cancer related issues.  About a month ago Guru had a heart attack and had open heart surgery.  He has been battling cancer for a while and lost the fight today.  Our condolences go out to his family, he was a big part of our Hip Hop family and will be missed.  His longtime collaborator and friend MC Solar made this statement, “The world has lost one of the best MCs and hip-hop icons of all-time — my loyal best friend, partner, and brother, Guru,” Solar said. “Guru has been battling cancer for well over a year and has lost his battle! This is a matter that Guru wanted private until he could beat it, but tragically, this did not happen. The cancer took him. Now the world has lost a great man and a true genius.”  He will be missed!

Nas and Damian Marley are coming out with an album Distant Relatives, along with the album was to be a tour.  The tour had to be canceled because of the Volcano that erupted in Iceland pretty much messing things up all across Europe.   They were supposed to perform in London on April 21st, but have to cancel because of the air conditions.  The volcano has been dormant for over 200 years.  Eye witnesses say they saw eruptions as high as 100 meters.  Usher was also supposed to do a promotional tour in the UK to promote his new song OMG, but had to cancel also.  Hoping that the air clears up over Europe soon.

By now everyone knows who Kat Stacks is, the new Hip Hop groupie who sleeps with all the rappers and then tells all of their business on website and books.  Sounds like a new Superhead for 2010.  So here she is on Shade 45 radio live on the air talking to a caller on the phone and it turns out that the caller is really Nelly whom Kat was saying she was with for a while sleeping around when he comes to FLA.  But this turns ugly because Nelly was straight up calling her a liar and Kat was calling Nelly a liar, it turns out hard to tell who’s lying because they both sound like their lying.  Especially Nelly because he was going in on her so hard.  Why in the world would an entertainer sleep with this gal when they know she’s going to come out and tell all.  Kat is fine, but not that fine.  She’s just so proud of herself for sleeping with several celebrities, seems happy to be a rappers jump off.  But check out the interview with Nelly and Kat going off on each other on the radio.

Emimen announced he wasn’t going to drop the album Relapse 2 this year.  Instead he’s changing the name of the album to Recovery.  Eminem explains what brought the change on.

“I had originally planned for Relapse 2 to come out last year.”  But as I kept recording and working with new producers, the idea of a sequel  to Relapse started to make less and less sense to me, and I wanted to make a completely new album.  The music  on Recovery came out very different from Relapse, and I think it deserves its own title.”

Yeah that makes sense, the album is supposed to drop on June 22nd.  Confirmed producers so far, Just Blaze, Boi-1da, Jim Jonsin and DJ Khalil.  Hope this album is better than Relapse from last year, I didn’t think that was very good and it didn’t make a lot of noise in the industry.  Is Em’s hype dead for good, I guess we’ll see in June.

Lately the Wu Tang Clan members have been making a come back.  The only member to make any real noise was Ghostface Killah in the last several years.  Ghost’s been persistent and making some real good music.  Wu Tang is trying to change all of that by coming out with albums in consecutive months.  Can Wu make the comeback to bring them back to the glory days, let’s see.

Return Of The Wu and Friends an album by Wu Tang Clan produced my Allah Mathematics from unreleased material from 2000-2008.  This is the perfect album for Wu-heads who have been fiending for some prime Wu Tang material.  This album is produced so good, seems like he made each beat to fit the flow of the artists.  There are several stand out tracks on this album, John 3:16, Clap 2010, It Is What It Is, Keep Pace and a few others.  What really makes this album is the production by Mathematics no doubt.  The rhyming is gritty and very NYish, but as a whole this album is worth it especially if you’re a die hard Wu-head like me.  Method Man was really feeling himself on this album he seemed to take it back.  I’ll give the album a 78% out of 100 no doubt.

Wu Massacre is an album with just Meth, Ghost and Rae.  Seems like they were trying to take it back to like the original Wu bangers like Only Built For Cuban Links and Tical.  The stand out track on this album is Criminology 2.5, with an updated beat of the original Criminology but the song is too short.  I have to admit like most of the beats on this album.  Another stand out track is Our Dreams featuring Inspector Deck and Sun God, great sample, great beat lovely rhyming on the track.  A beautifully RZA produced track, seems like they were all feeling it on this on.  Only two tracks are produced by RZA, most of the other tracks are produced by Allah Mathematics and Scram Jones.  One track a piece by E. Meal, Digem Tracks Production and Ty Fyffe.  The album is only 30 mins long so watch how much you spend on it.  You can get it from Amazon for $10, fair price, click the hot new releases in the side bar on this site to check it out.  I’ll give the album 75% out of 100, mostly because of the beats and grit of the rhymes.
