by EJah on Apr.19, 2010, under Artists, Events, News

Nas and Damian Marley are coming out with an album Distant Relatives, along with the album was to be a tour.  The tour Iceland Volcanohad to be canceled because of the Volcano that erupted in Iceland pretty much messing things up all across Europe.   They were supposed to perform in London on April 21st, but have to cancel because of the air conditions.  The volcano has been dormant for over 200 years.  Eye witnesses say they saw eruptions as high as 100 meters.  Usher was also supposed to do a promotional tour in the UK to promote his new song OMG, but had to cancel also.  Hoping that the air clears up over Europe soon.

2009 Grammy Awards

by EJah on Feb.02, 2010, under Artists, Events, Hip Hop Politics, Music

Grammy Awards2009 Grammy Awards brings now Kanye West Drama, but other controversies steamed from Kanye West.  Before I say this let me remind you Beyonce won 6 awards for the evening.  When Taylor Swift’s Fearless beat Beyonce’s I Am…Sasha Fierce for album of the year, Twitter and Facebook were blowing up regarding this.  Everyone was online chatting about how Kanye West made Swift famous and she would’ve never won that award if not for him.  I’m sorry to burst people’s bubble, but Swift was famous way before Kanye made an ass of himself at the Video awards.  She just wasn’t famous to us, I don’t know what it is about Country music, I hardly know anyone (white friends included) who say that they like Country music, but that music has been burning the charts up for years.  Granted it’s taken a back seat to Hip Hop in the last several years, but I remember back in the 90’s Garth Brooks had three albums in the Billboard top 200 albums at one time.  So this is nothing new, plus Beyonce won 6 damn Grammys, just because she didn’t win album of the year people weren’t satisfied it’s a shame.  What’s even more of a shame is that Kanye West’s ignorance at the video awards is still taking shine away from artists.  But all in all the Grammy Awards were boring and they played the same music we heard all year over and over, just like all the award shows.  They should think about getting creative on these shows because they’re putting me to sleep.  One great thing about the Grammys this year, Mos Def was nominated for best rap album for his album The Estatic.

Beyonce and Swift both did good at the Grammys, so what's the problem?!?

Kanye West Barred from Performing at Haiti Telethon

by EJah on Jan.26, 2010, under Artists, Events, News

This is the funniest Kanye story ever, producers of the George Clooney’s telethon for victims of Haiti have barred Mr WestKanye West from performing because of past actions at other telethons and award shows.  Mentioned was when he performed at the Katrina telethon, he got on stage and said George Bush doesn’t care about black people.  We all knew this but, he didn’t really have to say it on tv, you know that’s gonna get you in trouble.  Also mentioned was when he grabbed the mic from Taylor Swift and said Beyonce had on of the best videos of all time.  She did?  Hmmm wonder why he said that, wonder why he grabbed the mic from the fine ass white girl.  Oh whatever the answer is it got him barred from performing at the Haiti telethon.  Well actually I think he grabbed the mic from Ms Swift because he was drunk.  He was swigging Henny straight from the bottle on the red carpet that night.  The only person alive who can shut Kanye up is Jay Leno when he asked him, what do you think your mother would have said if she were alive when you grabbed the mic from Taylor?  Damn Jay!

Scott La Rock Tribute concert

by EJah on Sep.01, 2009, under Artists, Events, Hip Hop, Music, News

Sat August 29th was a tribute to Scott La Rock at the Fillmore Irving Plaza New York City.  Show featured Old Skool Scott La Rock Tributeartists, Kool Moe D, Just Ice, Grand Daddy IU and of course KRS 1.  The show was awesome and an inspiration to the new skool aritsts.  Too see these older MC’s up on stage doing there thing.  Giving a show of more than just a bunch of people jumping up and down on stage ad libbing the song.  Funniest thing was to see Kool Moe D with his old crew member from the Trecherous 3, LA Sunshine and the Mighty Mike C from the Fearless 4 up there perfoming together.  Mike C performed Kool Moe D, Trecherous 3 and Fearless 4 songs, pretty impressive.  Kool Moe D was way to overweight though, check out the photos from the concert.  Grand Daddy IU did his thing nothing to spectacular though, but he still got rhymes and perfomed his old hits to a tee.  Just Ice still has a lot of energy just like he did back in the day.  It was great to see him performing all of his back in the day hits.  Latoya was one of my favorites from back then.  He still looks great for his age, still has the long locks t00.  KRS 1 was murder up there on the stage, he seems to not have lost a step on the stage.  You still see his energy and feel his passion while performing his past songs and reciting poetry.  KRS 1 had a Hip Hop history lesson for us to remenice about.  He rocked the house like no other that night.  The tribute to Scott La Rock was a great thing, remembering how Scott and KRS1 met and how Just Ice and KRS were in the shelter together and Scott was their counselor.  Made me get musshy inside.  The bad thing was everyone wanted to come to the concert and no one wanted to pay.  There was almost a fight because the promoter didn’t want to let someone’s whole posse into the concert for free.  Man where’s the support for the old skool, I guess there won’t be anymore of these concerts going on.  But this one was great, DJ Red Alert hosted, DJ Jazzy Joyce was on the tables, DJ Kool Herc was in the house showing his support.  It was great to see showmanship in Hip Hop from others besides, Jay Z, the Roots and others who give a show and not just show up and rap.  I wish 50 Cent was there because even though he’s stepping up his rap game a bit, I still can’t stand his stage show.  Rock on old skool, show ‘em how it’s done!

NYC Real Hip Hop Concert

by EJah on Aug.05, 2009, under Artists, Events, Hip Hop

The Real Hip HopWe have had a lack of real Hip Hop concerts lately. There doesn’t seem to be a big market for it. It’s like people are mindless lately, liking every that the radio pumps out 100 times a day. Hey I was like that once upon a time. But actually back in the day the songs played on the radio was what the people actually wanted. Now it’s not like that any more. So since we can control the airwaves, here comes events like this one. Throw by Black Monoply Records. This is part two of the Golden Age of Hip Hop. Part one was such a hype concert, this one is no doubt going to be blaze too. So if you’re in the NYC area on August 29, 2009 make sure you stop by to check this concert out. Black Monopoly Records is run by Eric King a cousin of Selectah EJah, HipHope.com’s resident DJ. Here’s the mission statement of Black Monoply records…..

Black Monopoly Records was conceived in the mind of Eric King. Since 1994 Eric has made strides in various ventures, and this is his biggest undertaking to date. His biggest influences have been KRS-1, Africa Bambaataa, and Public Enemy. His goal is to produce quality acts in the entertainment business and also sponsor and have events that will keep people talking. So look out for us this year and for years to come. When you see BMR you know the EVENT will be HOT!

Over the years I’ve been influenced by DJ’s like Scott la Rock of Boogie Down Productions, Red Alert, Jam Master Jay and Kid Capri to name a few. I’ve been djing for about ten years now, and promoting events for 7 years. I have shared the DJ spotlight with hot 97s DJ’s Cocoa Chanelle and Fat Man Scoop. And also the World Famous DJ Brucie B.

I would like to take this moment to say Rest In Peace to the following people: my father Donald King, Scott la Rock of Boogie Down Productions, B.O. from the Zulu Nation, Easy E of N.W.A, Notoris B.I.G, Tupac, Big L, Trouble T-roy from Heavy D & the Boys, left eye of TLC, Jam Master J of Run-DMC, Aaliyah, Buffy from the Fat Boys, Cowboy from Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, mighty Mike Ski from the dismaster’s, MC Trouble, and Freaky Tah of the Lost Boys.

Drake apologizes for BET performance with Weezy

by EJah on Jul.07, 2009, under Artists, Events, Hip Hop Politics, Music, News

Drake has a song called “Every Girl In the World” featuring Lil Wayne, this song is about fu… I mean having sexual Drake and Lil Waynerelations with every girl in the world. Now I’m never the one to hate on someone with a foul mouth, I slip up in front of the kids every once in a while myself. But the performance on the BET awards was way worse than me having to apologize to my daughter for saying the s-word. I was just saying how there’s too much going on with Lil Wayne, and I been posting about him way too much. Just when I thought I was done with him, here he goes again in some more stupidness (made up word but so what). So in the middle of the song, here come Weezy’s young daughter and her friend. First off they bum rushed the stage because this wasn’t planned. Stupid stage people with no brain or no clue what Drake and Weezy were rapping about. The girls apparently demanded to get on stage (stupid stage people). So here are two little girls dancing to a song that says the wanna fu…. I mean have sex with every girl in the world. Oh my, isn’t that disturbing, they’re singing that song and there’s two little girls dancing in the background. So what the hell is Drake apologizing for? Those weren’t his kids bum rushing the stage. Damn this is one of the reason’s people are saying Drake is going to take Weezy’s throne. Here’s a few more, his drugged out, two children having, two baby moms at the same time, homo controversy, gun charges and yes there’s more but we’ll stop here because this is a Drake post not a Lil Wayne bashing post. But let’s see what’s good this year as Drake gets signed and more exposure (like he hasn’t had enough). Everyone saying he’s the next great rapper to take over the game. But hey is it possible he can be another Canibus? Yeah probably not in the age of Laffy Taffy-like hooks and mindless songs that sell like hot cakes.  Hey wanna see the video, it’s a bit disturbing, but check it out.

Lil Wayne cancels Europe tour

by EJah on Jul.06, 2009, under Artists, Events, News

Sorry to be ODing on Lil Wayne storys, but damn there’s so much going on with him and, let’s admit it, he’s a very Lil Wayneinteresting person.  Regardless of his wack lyrical content, he still makes hit records and stays in the studio.  While I may not like his music, I love his work ethic and success.  With that said, what the hell is wrong with him.  Seems like he’s always getting sick from something.  According to the BBC, he canceled his European tour due to illness (no they didn’t say what illness) and doctor recomended rest.  Wow, how much rest could he need, the tour wasn’t supposed to start unti July 12th.  There must really be something wrong with him.  Well let’s see what more info comes out, I’ll let you know.  But the tour included the Roskilde Festival in Denmark, Paris, London, Amsterdam, Liege and Thurgau in Switzerland.  Europe seems to be getting the short end of the stick in the last week or two.  First Michael dies, so no concert, now Weezy gets sick and cancels his concerts.  Don’t worry Europe, he’s planning on making the tour again after he gets bettter.

T Pain suprises Jay Z on stage

by EJah on Jun.11, 2009, under Artists, Events, News

The weekend of June 6, 2009, Jay Z is performing at his Summer Jam concert when out of no where T Pain jumps on stage as a total suprise to Jay Z while performing his hit Death to Autotune. As meantioned before this song is about everyone biting T Pain’s style and murdering the Autotune plugin on every song that comes out instead of being original. Jay Z describes in an interview that he thought it was a fan jumping onstage to hug him during an interview with Angie Martinez on Hot 97 in NYC. So check out the video of Jay Z performing and check out the interview with Angie Martinez. This Jay Z shit is getting so hot!
