Jay Z blast’s the industry with new song Death Of Autotune

by EJah on Jun.09, 2009, under News, Review

Death Of AutotuneJay Z went off on all the rappers using the autotune plugin for Pro Tools. Autotune is a plugin that mimicks a vocordo, think Roger Troutman’s More Bounce to the Ounce with the Zapp Band. He used an actual hardware called a vocordor that makes your voice sound like that. T Pain is the pretty much the first rapper to use the style and the rest of the industry ran with it. Recently I recorded a singer from India that asked me to make his hook sound like T Pain. I’m posting the lyrics and the song for Death of Autotune so you can hear the reference Jay Z made said about T Paining it. So basically, I Jay Z feels like I do regarding this, like everyone in the industry taking his style and running with it. Pretty much playing the Autotune sound out. This song by Jay Z is so hot, the beat is crazy and the lyrics are so on point it’s ridiculous. Check out the song and let me know what you think about the song and your thoughts on the whole T Pain sound a likes out there.  He really ripped Kanye on this single also.

Download this song (don’t worry this one’s on Jay Z)

Redman Method Man “Blackout 2″ album review

by EJah on Jun.06, 2009, under Review

Blackout 2The new album by Red and Meth no doubt brings Hip Hop back to the day when Hip Hop was all good and pure.  No doubt back to what, ’92 when Wu, Blackmoon, Pharcyde, Souls of Mischief, Fat Joe and many more dope groups and MC’s were first on the scene and rockin’ no doubt.  Blackout 2 is no doubt reminicent of these days sun! The last 3 albums from Method Man and the last few Wu Tang albums were terrible.  The only reason Wu is still kickin’ is because of Ghostface, GZA and RZA.  But the latest effort from Red and Meth are on point.

BO2 (intro)-
Horns blasting, Redman flowing and going off and Method Man doing his thing no doubt.  Even as an into this song is nice.  Reminds of some old Terminator X shit.

I’m Dope Nigga-
Down tempo beat with Red and Meth going off.  You hear the Gangsta coming back out in Meth.  Red just rocks the mic with his crazyness that we love.  Great song.

A Yo (feat Saukrates)-
This is the first single from the album (check the video in the sidebar).  This song is very hype and features Redman’s homie Saukrates adding mad flavor to this song.  Probably the best song on the album.  Hook by Saukrates has a reggae feel to it.

Dangerous MCees-
Nice beat, with piano riffs and a nice flow by both Red and Meth.  Hook is mad cool can no doubt be played on the radio.

Errbody Scream (feat Keith Murray)-
Up tempo club banger with the hype beat that slows down and Keith Murray saying “When we in the house shit gets retarted.”  Keith keeps track hype because he’s just a hype MC and help carry the track to dopeness.

Hey Zulu-
This track would be wack if not for Redman.  The beat is nice but the played out Vocordor (think T Pain) makes the song sound like everyone elses song that’s out there now.  But Red keeps this track no doubt hot.  Thanks for the props to the Zulu nation.

City Lights (feat Bun B)-
Yeah I can’t say too much about this song.  It’s a bit wack, it wouldn’t be so bad but Bun B messed the song all up.  Meth sounded like he just woke up or something.

Fathers Day-
Love the ’70′s riff on this song.  Your average Method Man and an average Redman.  Song sounds good mostly because of the beat.  Not very lyrically powerful but not bad though.  Song is really good, like it very much.

Mrs International (skit)-
Funny skit with Redman shutting down the bickering women.

Mrs International (feat Eric Sermon)-
Slow tempo song with another ’70′s feel.  But not only the beat is ’70′s but also the hook.  I love it, no doubt blunt music.

How Bout Dat (feat Ready Roc and Streetlife)-
This song is a bit bland, Ready Roc has a great flow no doubt though.  Probably what saved this song from wackness.

Dis Iz 4 All My Smokers-
Just exactly what the title suggest.  A smokers song perfect for those Friday and Saturday night get togethers with your friends in the basement with the dutches and Xbox 360.  Nice hook, a bunch of people in unison reciting the title of the song.

Lock Down (Skit) (Feat DJ Kayslay, C.O Ellis, Reggie Noble And Ready Roc)-
Jail house skit, that’s all I have to say about that (sounding like Forest Gump).

Four Minutes To Lock Down (Featuring Raekwon And Ghostface Killah)-
Posse cut (yeah the ’90′s) that Ghostface was making the song.  Raekwon kind of blended in unnoticed though.  Good song (not great though), could’ve been better with the line up they had.

Neva Herd Dis B4-
I guess every album has to have a wack song.  The flows are good, but the beat and the hook make the song straight boring.  Messed up some good rhymes.

I Know Sumptn (feat Poo Bear)-
Great beat, another club banger, the only bad thing is the played out vocordor by Poo Bear.  But I’m sure if you bump this in the club it’ll bang.

A Lil’ Bit (feat Melanie Rutherford)-
The vocordor on this song is not of the played out kind.  I like the song Melanie adds flavor to the song.  She sounds mad sexy.  Judge for yourself, check out her myspace page. ——–> www.myspace.com/melanierutherford

All and all I would give the album a nice 80% because of the overall feel of the album.  Nice flows, sounds like Method Man is back on his game.  Redman never lost it, Meth probably didn’t either he just needed some guidance and get away from them Wu Brothas.

Killa Cam keeps it real

by EJah on Jun.06, 2009, under News, Review

Cam'RonCam’Ron keeps it real, with his taste in music.  Recently asked by MTV what he bumps personally this was his reply, “To be honest, I’ve been listening to a variety of stuff.  The last album I bought was Plies’ album. I like Plies a lot. Basically, being in Florida, you feel him even more when you’re in that atmosphere. [Lil] Wayne is my man. I got stuff like Jay-Z’s first album, Reasonable Doubt, [Nas'] infamous Illmatic, stuff that makes me think. [A lot of] new albums are like, ‘Eh, whatever.’ But I got a lot of ‘97, ‘98 stuff in my car, ‘96. Raekwon’s Only Built 4 Cuban Linx. … I always listen to DeBarge. DeBarge is always in the loop. John Legend. Beyoncé’s new CD is in there. I do a lot of mixtape R&B stuff. I even got the Force M.D.s.”  Yeah I have to agree with you, I’ve been hearing a lot of new stuff as blah also and really bumping the old skool too.  Another thing we and Cam have in common is we both like Debarge.  So with that said his latest album is good and not wack like his double album “Public Enemy #1.”  His latest effort called “Crime Pays” came out May 12th, 2009.  It’s a good (not great) album.  I especially liked the song “Cookies and Apple Juice,” “Silky (No Home)” is mad funky.  There’s 23 tracks on the CDCam'Ron, Crime Pays, 5 are skits.  It’s a good purchase for the money.  But if you don’t like Cams flow then you still won’t like this album, he really kills his studder-step-stop-and-go style (hahaha, that’s what I call it).   All in all I give the album a 65% which is passing, but not great.  Do ya thing sun!  Oh yeah We’re also glad he took wack ass pink clothing off.  Man that was really hurting your image back then.
