2009 Grammy Awards
by EJah on Feb.02, 2010, under Artists, Events, Hip Hop Politics, Music
2009 Grammy Awards brings now Kanye West Drama, but other controversies steamed from Kanye West. Before I say this let me remind you Beyonce won 6 awards for the evening. When Taylor Swift’s Fearless beat Beyonce’s I Am…Sasha Fierce for album of the year, Twitter and Facebook were blowing up regarding this. Everyone was online chatting about how Kanye West made Swift famous and she would’ve never won that award if not for him. I’m sorry to burst people’s bubble, but Swift was famous way before Kanye made an ass of himself at the Video awards. She just wasn’t famous to us, I don’t know what it is about Country music, I hardly know anyone (white friends included) who say that they like Country music, but that music has been burning the charts up for years. Granted it’s taken a back seat to Hip Hop in the last several years, but I remember back in the 90’s Garth Brooks had three albums in the Billboard top 200 albums at one time. So this is nothing new, plus Beyonce won 6 damn Grammys, just because she didn’t win album of the year people weren’t satisfied it’s a shame. What’s even more of a shame is that Kanye West’s ignorance at the video awards is still taking shine away from artists. But all in all the Grammy Awards were boring and they played the same music we heard all year over and over, just like all the award shows. They should think about getting creative on these shows because they’re putting me to sleep. One great thing about the Grammys this year, Mos Def was nominated for best rap album for his album The Estatic.

Beyonce and Swift both did good at the Grammys, so what's the problem?!?
Lil Wayne – Rebirth (release 2.2.2010)
by EJah on Jan.28, 2010, under Artists, Review
I know a lot of you are, but I’m not a big Lil Wayne fan. His rap style is a bit bland for me. His latest album Rebirth seems exactly that. A musical rebirth of Lil Wayne, new style of music not your average tracks, a lot of singing and rock style music. Is that what it is now? Sounds like a fuse or Rock and Hip Hop, well since I personally like rock music, I like the album. It’s different, creative, he has some nice guests and it’s rock music. So what else can I say, guilty of liking rock music. Guest appearances by Shanell, Nicki Manaji, Kevin Rudolph, Tyga and Gudda Gudda. Check the album out for yourself and see if you like it. Lil Wayne is doing a lot of singing with the help of autotune on this album. I already know most of you will because Lil Wayne can take a sh!t on a track and people would eat it up. Even though I get a kick out of talking trash about his personal life, this right here is the realness, cop that. Click the widget to preview and/or buy this album.

F**k Hip Hop according to Scarface
by EJah on Aug.05, 2009, under Artists, Hip Hop Politics
Wow, I’ve had thoughts of saying f**k Hip Hop since the Cash Money, Clear Channel days. When you hear rappers that sound like s**t selling millions of records and you’re like what the f*** (ie Vanilla Ice, Young MC). I know me personally growing up as a small youth when Hip Hop was brand new and being from the Bronx had that thought many times since the 90’s. But instead of giving up on Hip Hop, I created a website so I can talk about the foulness, wackness, politics etc going on. At the same time give underground artists and models (who are also artists but deserve to be mentioned separately) the chance to shine right along with the so called artists. So basically the degradation of Hip Hop as an art form was a slow process starting in the 90’s with Vanilla Ice and Young MC. Rappers who cannot rap or rap about bs and sell millions and get awards and all that. Present day, the hottest rapper is Lil Wayne. He’s on every radio, every magazine and all the award shows. Regardless how bland his rhymes are, how wack his flow is and how stupid his personal life gets. Wow, there’s really something wrong with the masses. Hip Hop has gotten so bad that veteran keep it real rappers are calling it quits in liu of this. Scarface is so sick of the wackness that in his interview with Allhiphop.com he explains why he’s not recording or listening to Hip Hop any more. He states back in the day it was cool to own albums by Tribe, Cube, NWA, Ice T or Kool G Rap. Now he’s like why buy music when you can download it for free. Especially in this day and age when stores are selling CD’s for like $10. Rappers making records with one good song and the rest garbage. All rappers need to sound like Lil Wayne or Soulja Boy to come out and sell. Basically he’s saying sound bland, have a gimmick and rap about absolutely nothing. Sorry to hear about Scarface as he’s sick of the business side of Hip Hop and the wackness. Me too, lucky I’m not a rapper, I’m a writer and producer and I can still make quality music. by EJah on Jun.07, 2009, under Introduction
HipHope.com is back, we’ve been static for about 6 or 7 months now. Mainly because of the format change. There’s been many options we’ve been exploring and decided to go with the blog format. Specifically we went with Wordpress. It’s lovely and so much easier than doing HTML. We hope you like the new format, we have 15 posts per issue. Showcasing undagroud artists, Hip Hop events and our dime model on the top posts and news, album reviews and signed artists on the bottom. So make sure to check back often and comment as much as you like. We don’t care if you disagree, hate on us, love us or whatever, we just want your opinion. This site is about keeping it real and that’s what we want from you, your honest opinion and what you really think. Plus we are still keeping the format of the mixtape for every issue. So check the mix below, you can listen to it or download it, totally up to you. This mixtape features club bangers, new, not so new and old school all mixed up in one mix. Check for it and let me know what you think people. Don’t forget to get the flash player you’ll need it for this site. The Models link at the top shows all posts with models in it. The Dimes link shows the past models of past HipHope.com. Holla…..

Date of Birth: 12-24-1985
Nationality: Trinidadian
Genre of Music: R&B, Hip Hop, Pop, Reggae, Soca
MySpace: www.myspace.com/Ladyprestige
Statement:
What strikes me about music is the passion and love that I have for it. My music reflects my life and general life experiences. I love the peculiarity of a good life, its frankness and its beauty. My strength of mind and surroundings encourages me to write beautiful heart-felt songs. To me music is life, “My Life”.
Biography:
Jamelia has been singing since the tender age of 12 in her home country of Trinidad and Tobago. Jamelia, who is also a student, comes from a musical family. Being that she is the only female artist in the family, she is the most endearing. Making it as a female artist today is not easy because there are so many obstacles thrown in the way. From performing in schools across the US, doing live shows, writing and in performance, she is determined and willing to go the distance Not too long ago she hooked up with Desert Storm; there she recorded her first single in titled “Don’t Say good Bye”. She was on tour with childhood friend Magz. She was special appearance at every live show and school that the rapper performed at, along side DJ Poun, Jay Z’s 40/40 Club DJ. She is featured on numerous mix tapes in the US & UK. Her songs Don’t Say Good-Bye, Haters Clocking Me, and Sweet Loving has and is still in heavy rotation on radio stations across the US & Canada and outside the US as well. It’s not off beam to say that she is luminous, original, passionate, and stern. With influences and inspirations like Tina Turner, Whitney Houston, Toni Braxton, Anita Baker, Xscape, Bob Marley, and Tanya Stephens I would agree. She describes herself as melodic, dynamic and passionate when coming to her craft. As of now, she is in the studio working on a couple of new projects.

Eminem Sells 608,000 albums in a week
by EJah on Jun.05, 2009, under News
As wack as Eminem is (not wack lyrically, I mean just wacked out of his mind) his album “Relapse” sold more than
608,000 copies in the first week of release. Wow! That’s crazy, especially in this day an age of the internet sharing and downloads. But this is his first album in almost 5 years. He beat out the group Greenday for the number one spot on the charts. I’m really impressed because a real group like Greenday got bumped. They sold 166,000 copies that week and 215,ooo copies when the album was released. Still showing the power of Hip Hop over the music industry. This is Em’s 5th straight number one album he released. Shocking since his lyrical skills diminished every album since his first release. But I guess his ill persona, problems he’s been going through and ill lyrical skills kept him going. Like if you listen to his songs, they all sound like any other stupid pop song they play on the radio, with some witty lyrics, funny euphorisms and great word play keep him on top of his game. But isn’t it ashame that he rocks the Hip Hop world over everyone when he hasn’t made an album in 5 years and all the vets and newby’s with all the props they get can’t touch him. What’s good now, is Soulja Boy Slim not that hot any more? I’m really stumped when there’s so much good music out there and the hottest rappers on the charts are Eminem and Soulja Boy Slim. WTF?
